Massage Therapy

We may incorporate Deep tissue, Swedish massage, Shiatsu, Sports massage, Myofascial release, Neuromuscular reintegration, Reflexology, and Range-of-motion exercises. My work is primarily guided by myofascial principles and an openness to learn from you, the client, about the techniques that will work best in each session.
I am certified in Ashiatsu barefoot massage through Deep Feet Bar Therapy. In an Ashiatsu session, I use my feet and body weight to deliver compressive and circulatory strokes. I am able to apply much deeper pressure with my feet than with my hands, without the discomfort of digging in with elbows, thumbs, and knuckles. Ashiatsu is excellent for athletes, those with back pain due to many hours seated at a desk, and anyone seeking resolution of chronic myofascial tension. While we can create significant structural and soft tissue change, Ashiatsu is also deeply relaxing and detoxifying, and may transport you into a whole new realm of bodywork bliss. I have always offered Prenatal massage, and have even written an online continuing ed course for Prenatal massage. Since going through pregnancy myself, I now have a much deeper understanding of the changes that occur in the body during this special time and the massage techniques that are most helpful. I am also a huge advocate for postpartum massage to help a woman's body heal after this amazing feat of creation. This is now one of my favorite modalities to practice.
While not a separate modality per say, massage for rehabilitation or chronic conditions is also a passion of mine. The human body has an amazing regenerative power to recover from all sorts of challenges. Massage can expedite the healing process pre- and post- surgery, or after any significant injury. I have also worked with clients experiencing paraplegia, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, and other long-term challenges, and I believe strongly in the ability of this work to improve movement options and quality of life for everyone. If you have mobility issues or other challenges that make it daunting to travel to my office, please don't hesitate to inquire about house calls/hospital visits.
I have cultivated a wide array of techniques in 19 years of experience. I have found that the best session is the one that meets you where you're at with a kind and intelligent approach, rather than a specific agenda. Meaning: deep tissue doesn't have to hurt. There's not something wrong with your body that needs fixed. Given the stresses of daily life and all we request from our bodies in work and in play, the regenerative capacities of the human form continue to amaze me. Using slower touch to feel with clarity where and what needs mobilized, toned, or balanced brings more sustainable results than forcing the tissue to do what we think it should. Any therapeutic process also requires your active participation in the form of focused deep breaths and honest feedback about your preferences. You know your body best after all. I will always offer recommendations for stretches and self-care activities to keep you feeling great between sessions. Whether you are challenged by chronic pain, living with a disability, recovering from injury, training to optimize athletic performance, seeking to manage stress, or curious to deepen your connection to your body, we will co-create a session and ongoing treatment plan to serve you best.
