Human Dissection/Anatomy Lab Friday October 25th -Sunday October 27th 2019 9-5pm each day. The Institute for Anatomical Research Denver, CO. $550. Tickets are not available online, please contact me to sign up. Are you fascinated by the body's mysteries? Have you studied anatomy or health sciences for years, and curious to take a look behind the veil? Studying dissection is the most helpful tool I've found for getting a real intimate look at what is going on under the surface. Our bodies are more complex and brilliant than we learned in basic anatomy training, and so much more nuanced than the textbooks would suggest. This is a 3 day, full body dissection workshop, and a distinctly different experience than the prosection presentation many of us may have experienced in massage school or YTT. Rather than observing a previously dissected form, we will dissect in real time, as there is much to be learned from watching the layers come apart in the moment. The folks at the Institute for Anatomical Research take an integrated, fascial approach to dissection- respect for and understanding of the relationships between all layers and types of tissues, and an appreciation for the inherent complexity of the physical form. This skilled and careful revelation of the forms offers a much more thorough learning experience than your average cadaver lab. It's also much more fun, as we follow our own path of inquiry, rather than a prescribed dissection format. This is an independent study group, and the instructor will tailor the dissection to our interests. The instructor will do the majority of the cutting, but we are all able to participate in the process to some degree. Hands on is always welcome, and in fact we can differentiate muscles with a fairly gentle touch. Once you've seen these structures in all their glory, your experience of movement and bodywork will be forever changed. While the form itself is the ultimate teacher, and our skilled instructor offers informed guidance, it's also super cool to learn alongside interested and interesting people. I would love to have you along for the wild ride! Please feel free to share this event info with other interested folk. Schedule: 9-5 each day, this includes opening/closing discussion circle, and a break for lunch mid-day. ~ 5 hours in the lab each day. Cost: $550 per person. $300 deposit is due by 8/25/19, the remaining $250 is due by 9/25/19. Payment can be made by check, made out to HeartFire Therapeutics, mailed to 1140 Russell St Golden CO 80401. For electronic payment contact [email protected]. This workshop combines an experiential anatomy discussion, meditation (both walking & 5 senses alongside Clear Creek), therapeutic movement, self massage techniques, and community connection. Our anatomy lesson maps the fascial pathways from feet to pelvis, so we can travel from foundation to core and back again with balance and strength. We take those concepts into practice during walking meditation, from the workshop basecamp, a beautiful 1880’s historic Golden home, to Clear Creek, where we will spend time in seated and moving meditation. Opening our senses to nature’s amazing resources reminds us that the same wealth also lies within. Also, there will be a tea and chocolate picnic! We return to our cozy home and turn inward with a therapeutic yoga practice and self-massage tutorial, using home blended oils (and store-bought tennis balls). Our time together concludes with deep rest, written reflection, and community integration. More details:

Adventures in the Fascial Web ~ An Anatomy and Asana 6 Part Series Our entire life’s story, exultation and injury, achievement and heart break, is stitched into the fabric of our fascia- an expressive and intelligent web of connective tissue. Fascia relates every piece and system of the body to the integrated whole. This workshop series lays the groundwork for an exploration of fascia in form and function. First we trace a topography of human anatomy according to the fascial matrix. Refining our familiarity with the body’s landscape enhances our appreciation of how we choose to dwell within it: how we move, breathe, and create, in our asana practice and beyond. Each class in the series offers a balance of study and movement, with conversation, breathwork, and meditation woven in to allow the information to sink deeper still. This series will be spread out throughout the spring and summer, held in the relative serenity of my backyard, a semi-cultured, semi-wild space that inspires us to dig our roots in and grow. Price for an individual class: $35 Series package (4 remaining workshops): $120 All Workshops held in the Backyard Yoga Studio: 1140 Russell St Golden CO 80401. Yes its outside, in my garden. Bring layers, water, yoga mat, journal and pen, open heart and mind. Each workshop will be followed by potluck style party. Feel free to bring a dish/drink to share! Pre-registration/pre-payment is required, click the EventBrite link at the top of the page to register. Credit cards/cash/checks also accepted if paying in person. First up: Spreading Roots to Stand Tall The Superficial Back Line May 8th, 2016 ~ 3-5:30 pm The network of roots throughout our feet and legs enable the trunk of the spine to extend with grace and strength. We will get a tour of the fascia, musculature, skeletal structure, and other landmarks of the Superficial Back Line, a straight swath of fabric from the tips of the toes to the crown of the head. Breath work and some basic meditation techniques will help us further contact the intelligence of the back body. In movement, we refine the simple grounding postures that provide essential foundation for advancing a fluid practice. This first class will also introduce the basic concepts of fascia: the many forms it takes, its raw ingredients, and its roll in anatomical integration. Each class in the series will build on the last, so you will best experience the complete offering by taking the entire series (hence the encouraging discount). However, drop-ins are also welcome for each class. Workshop #2: The Strength to Melt the Heart The Superficial Front Line June 5th, 2016 ~ 4:30-7 pm Our animal instincts compel us to protect the spaces where we are most vulnerable: belly, heart, throat. A stagnant seated lifestyle further compresses and closes the front body. Using the stability of the back body and the powerful support of abdominal engagement, we can harness the strength to unfurl our brave and tender hearts. Let’s evolve out of survival mode and into what really sustains us- the courage to connect. This workshop explores the skeletal structure, musculature, and connective tissue matrix of the front body. Focus is on firing up the core and melting into heart openers. The intelligence of the breath hones our skills of sensitivity, and guides us into a sweet extended metta (loving kindness) meditation. Workshop #3: Deepening Dimensions ~ The Lateral Lines September 24th, 2016 ~ 9am-11:30am In this workshop, we leave behind linear thinking and explore the complex scaffolding of the side bodies. Trusses of fascia from feet to hips provide the structure to launch our spines into spring-loaded side-bends. The myo-fascial trellis extending from hips to head allows us to grow length between hips and ribs, to breathe space between ribs and shoulders, and to grow into our three-dimensionality. Breath takes center stage as the primary means of expanding movement potential in the torso and spreading self-awareness into new territory. Workshop #4: Embracing Expansion ~ The Arm Lines September 24th, 2016 ~ 4pm-6:30pm Whatever you do for work, however you play, you use hands and arms to branch your heart’s intention out into the world around you. This final workshop in the series details the four myo-fascial pathways that emanate from the upper back or chest and extend down the arms and out the fingertips. Desk jockeys will delight in unwinding forearm and finger tendons from the fascial web around them. Climbers, avid yogis, and all lovers of arm balances will access the support to hold or suspend weight with the arms. A brief overview of mudra (traditional yogic hand gestures) gives us creative tools for meditation and deepens our capacity to express the wisdom of our heart through the expression of our hands. Workshop #5: Cultivating a Compassionate Core ~ The Deep Front Line September 25th, 2016 ~ 9am-11:30am Often we study systems of the body separately, as though they functioned in isolation. This workshop highlights the integration of the musculo-skeletal system with the organs of the abdomen and thorax. We get a closer look at how the myo-fascia of the body’s core affects digestion, breath patterns, heart function, and nervous system communication. Our asana practice combines abdominal strengthening with loosening inner hips, pelvic floor, and chest, all while crafting a kind attitude for this amazing vessel of the body. Balancing ease and engagement in the Deep Front Line can create lasting postural shifts, and allow us to settle more fully into seated meditation. Witnessing peace in the body, the restless mind follows suit. Workshop #6: Coil into Power, Radiate Grace ~ The Spiral Lines September 25th, 2016 ~ 4pm-6:30pm This final workshop guides us further down the rabbit hole via the spiral line, a double helix of fascia that wraps the body from head to toe. Stirrups in the soles of the feet gather the steadiness of the legs. From this fine-tuned stability we can unravel creative expression of spine, hips, and heart. We will cultivate fierce abdominal strength, hone impeccable balance, and revel in twists from every angle. We’ll also delve deeper into pranayama (breathwork) and meditation, discussing the spiral action of heart and lungs, and the 3 main nadis (channels)- pathways for the transformative intelligence of the energetic body. |
